Career Transition - Job Seekers

Where do I start? Or, I can’t get started! Or, I’m getting frustrated and going in circles!

Looking for a new role can be a lot of work. You not only have to manage the emotional rollercoaster but also figure out how to do all the technical stuff like resumes, networking, and interviewing.

It requires some heavy lifting and anyone who tells you otherwise, hasn’t been through the process. Nobody jumps at the chance to do work that can be discouraging at times. There will be rejection, ignored emails, and anxiety provoking networking meetings. These realities often keep us from moving forward and finding the roles we truly desire. That’s where having a thought partner and coach becomes a critical support system. A coach helps keep you accountable and on track while you complete the critical tasks that are sometimes out of your comfort zone.

You don’t have to figure everything out on your own. I’ve worked with hundreds of professionals in all sectors and will help you craft your messaging (resume, one pager, positioning statement, networking, interviewing). In order to do that well, we work upfront to assess your key strengths, skills, and sift through the highs and lows of your career to determine where to strategically focus your search.

For those in career transition, you are likely to experience a rollercoaster of emotions. From sadness, frustration, anger, hopelessness to relief, optimism, and calmness. Sometimes all in the same day! But this needs to be well managed so you’re not hijacked by your emotions. We need to have the feelings, but the feelings cannot have us.

Unclear About Next Career Move?

Figuring out what you want to do for a living isn’t easy for a lot of people. It’s a big decision that impacts a lot of areas of our lives. Where we choose to work becomes such an important part of our identity. There used to be a time when we took on the roles of our parents, if they were farmers, we became farmers. If they were artisans, we became artisans. Now, we have a lot more choice, which is great, but it’s also stressful and overwhelming at times. How do you know what you want?

Sometimes we’ve had a wonderful career but are feeling stale and uninspired. We need a new challenge but what is that exactly? Or, we desperately want a change, but have very mixed feelings as we enjoy a good salary and are established within a profession.

This is where having a strategic thought partner is critical. It’ll give you a chance to put all your thoughts and feelings on the table so you can critically assess what’s truly important. I will work with you to help you get clear on what you want in a way that’s aligned to your values and strengths. Then you can be confident in the choices you’re making.

Virtual Support Group

Being in-between jobs can be a lonely process. It seems as if everyone else is working and you’re drifting on an iceberg. A weekly check-in with a group of people alleviates the isolation and helps keep you on track. The group shares best practices, discusses how to get around roadblocks and provides moral support.

Each meeting begins with exploring tools or resources job seekers have found useful. It’s a facilitated conversation where everyone member gets a chance to be heard.

A new group starts every 3 months. If interested, contact me and let me know when you would like to join the group.

Coaching is a process of reflection, discovery and self-awareness combined with action and self-motivation. Coaching is solution focussed and designed to move you forward rather than dwelling on the past.  It’s a powerful method to help you improve, grow and develop and learn new skills, strategies, and tools during the job hunt or job change.

You need to be committed to making the changes that are needed to undertake the job search. I can champion you, support you, spur you to greatness, but I can’t do the work for you. And you don’t need fixing. I’m going to help you realise just how capable you are.

If after one month of working together you are not 100% satisfied with my coaching service, I offer a no quibble, money-back guarantee. This is why I offer the 45-minute no-obligation starter consultation. I’ll only offer to work with you further if I am confident you will benefit from our time together.

I’m fortunate to work in many countries. If we happen to be in the same city, I’m happy to meet face-to-face. Otherwise, I meet via Skype, Zoom, WhatsApp or FaceTime

  • To help your clarify your career target aligned to values and strengths– even when the going gets tough and you lose sight of it, I never will.
  • To challenge you when needed– old beliefs, habits and behaviours that get in your way.  We’ll uncover how you might be keeping yourself stuck and set up more useful and helpful habits together.
  • To support you– I’m on your team and my passion is to see you succeed. I’ll champion you and support you every step of the way.
  • To be honest– even if it’s difficult or uncomfortable, I will be straight with you.
  • To curate and tailor the information – you’re an individual with individual needs, you need the right information and the right actions for you.
  • To make it fun– it can be stressful and I’m here to make the process fun, light and as easy as possible.
  • A commitment to change– just turning up to the sessions is not enough. You have to commit to yourself to do the work and take responsibility for the outcome of the coaching.
  • A commitment to the session– turn up on time, take the opportunities when we’re together seriously and be present in each session.
  • A commitment to the homework– take responsibility for the mutually agreed upon actions each session. Often the greatest understanding, realisations and clarity come in between sessions.
  • To be honest– even if it’s difficult or uncomfortable because it’s in this space that the greatest changes happen.
  • To challenge yourself –  You’ll be amazed at how small changes and shifts make a BIG difference.
  • To have fun– this is your life, your career, your journey. Enjoy it, embrace it and have fun with it. Not everything will be serious, nor should it. Plus I like laughing, it’s good for you!
